Administration in WilliamnagarThere are just two Urban settlements in the East Garo Hills District, the district headquarter are Resubelpara and Williamnagar.
The District Administration is headed by the Deputy Commissioner. The DC is the Executive Head as well as Judicial Head of the district. The DC also acts as the Collector related to Revenue matters, as District Magistrate is responsible for maintenance of Law and Order and General Administration, also as the District Election Officer is responsible for the conduct of election and so on. The Deputy Commissioner is assisted by a number of officers like Additional Deputy Commissioners, Sub-Divisional Officers, Assistant Commissioners and others.
The Development is a very important objective of the District Administration. The DC plays an important role as the executive head in coordinating with all developmental heads of the district for all round developmental activities under various development schemes & programmes such as MP LDAS, MLA’s Fund, Employment Assurance Schemes, Border Areas Development Funds and so on.
The District Planning Officer is assigned to see, plan and release of fund for development schemes. The Planning Branch of the DC’s office assists the DPO in this matter. Each development departments in the district, like PWD, Health, Education, Irrigation and many others coordinate to work together and a District Development Committee (DDC) headed by DC has been in place to ensure this coordination.
The District Rural Development Agency is in East Garo Hills. Williamnagar was registered as a society under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 3rd May, 1984. It is governed by existing rules and procedures of Government of Meghalaya and Government of India.
